MICROMASTER: customers and all the small things that matter | virtual museum part 2
Listen to podcast episode No. 2 on customer applications and more

In this episode of the MICROMASTER Museum I talk to Andy H., who spent many days traveling the world to support customer applications running on a MICROMASTER converter. I am especially grateful to Andy for this interview, as he retired from Siemens some time ago and took time off from his other projects for this interview. As you will hear he is very passionate about Siemens drives and definitely has more stories to tell than would fit into this podcast episode.

In the late 1990s, the drives or converter technology was new in many ways. A number of challenges made life difficult for the engineers responsible. Adjustments had to be made to the product hardware and software, as customers were using the product in unexpected ways and environments.
Andy shares his memories of a trip to a jute factory in India, where tiny carbon strands from burnt jute resulted in a bit of a flash, and the drive stopped working. Customer requirements developed quickly. For example, a new drives parameter was added that determined the motor’s direction. There are applications where the motor may never run backwards: under no circumstances. Tune in to episode 2 for the full stories and insights from Andy.

And finally, do not miss out on the latest addition to the MICROMASTER soundtrack which is by the band Blink-182, the song “All the small things”. As you will hear, in a global product launch it is often about all the small things that matter. Andy has some additional thoughts on why he chose this title.

Have you ever wondered what passionate Siemens engineers do once they retire?
Andy has been supporting the local community project “Congleton Hydro” with his engineering expertise. An initiative that will make it possible to substantially reduce the CO2 emissions of Siemens in Congleton. More information on the project is available here: https://www.congletonhydro.co.uk/
wonderful memories of the good old days. Thank you Andy that you took us on this journey. Always a pleasure 🙂
I Enjoyed listening to these podcasts. Makes me remember working on MM2, MMJ and MM3 when I first started here in December 1997. Looking forward to the next one!
When I see something on Yammer, normally, I’ll block 30 mins and look at it later on. This morning, when I saw episode 2 was released, I couldn’t wait and watched it immediately. Another great episode Susanne – really good stuff and…
Love this series Suzanne. I have been at Congleton since before this product was introduced and i appreciate the impact it has had on how the factory and employees have evolved……..also top choice of track from Andy!
Really enjoyed while listening the memories Andy shared…
Thanks for this great podcast and article…
