How Aerospace brings ideas to life

At the very beginning, in June 2020, there was just a small idea. Aerospace in your pocket.  

Our Intention was not only to create a virtual exhibition of our holistic Siemens & Atos portfolio but also a virtual meeting room for customers and our Aerospace community. 

Challenges, that we have accepted

Our main challenge was to put the complete portfolio of Siemens in a nutshell. 

Siemens is an expert in automation since many years and strongly supports customers on their way to their digital enterprise. Siemens Digital Industries is a technology leader with focus on sustainability and innovation. We bring the digital transformation to success also with our Customer Services, Smart Infrastructure, and Atos portfolio. 

We offer solutions for the specific requirements of the Aerospace industry. New planes will be lighter, faster, and more efficient. These aircrafts of the future drive new demands on product & production design, on implementation and process optimization. We manage all and prove it here in our Aeroworld. 

Another challenge was to combine our machine builders as well as end customers interests, both are our close partners. We all must work together. 

History of Origins

So, one of our first steps was to specify and develop all design-, manufacturing- and controlling stations according to an aircraft lifecycle, including the machine builder’s interest.  

The Aeroworld stations are:

Software

Fly it before you build it. In our Software room, we show our customers how the Aerospace Industry can benefit from the digitalization. We support our customers with intelligent tools for product and production design, for process implementation and optimization as well as seamless communication between all systems. 

Here, they can discover how to benefit from merging the virtual and the physical world and see the possibilities provided by the Digital Twins of product, machine, plant, and the entire production. The virtual version of an airplane represents every detail and can be used to simulate, test, and optimize the airplane before production even starts. Our solution enables to identify e.g., bottlenecks and to simulate the energy consumption in the plant.  The seamless integration of software, automation, and cutting-edge technologies will take the industry to the next level of efficiency. 

Part Manufacturing

One of the first stations in our manufacturing hall is the SINUMILL, a digital twin of a real milling machine equipped with best-in-class automation products. We can e.g. demonstrate High-End Part manufacturing with SINUMERIK ONE, our digital native CNC! Our customers can experience how Siemens can support to maximize productivity, to innovate faster, to excite digitalization and to discover a new way of thinking. 

Additive Manufacturing

Additive Manufacturing is an important technology for our Aerospace industry. Freedom of design, the parts are light, and you can print spare parts so easily. Of course, our Aeroworld also includes this cutting-edge technology. And, best of all, you can walk through our Digital Additive Manufacturing Experience Center (AMEC) straight from the Aeroworld. 

CNC Robotics

Robots can be used not only for drilling and milling technologies but also for additive manufacturing and painting applications – the highest path accuracy, flexibility and mobility are guaranteed.  

Assembly

We offer best-in-class solutions for Composites manufacturing, Pre-Assembly and Final-Assembly processes, including Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV) and Cranes.  

Our controllers ensure maximum efficiency for high-end applications in machine and system automation. Motion control is our expertise. Aerospace manufacturers benefit from a high degree of flexibility, convenient engineering, and rapid commissioning. 

Engine and Landing Gear Manufacturing

At this station, we demonstrate our customers how we optimize engine and landing gear production and shape accuracy and surface quality. We are experts in High-End grinding, milling, and turning technologies used to manufacture engine and landing gear components in the most efficient way.  

Digital Connectivity and Power 

Our customers can benefit from our unique expertise in industrial communication and networking. We offer not only numerous identification and localization solutions, but also efficient network infrastructure. We guarantee network security, Wi-Fi and remote communication and also take care for power supplies.

Control Room

In our Control Room, we demonstrate our best-in-class solutions for Industrial Services, Smart Infrastructure, Atos and Connect IT & OT. 

We offer a wide range of services. From classical to digital services, we provide training and support hotline, spare parts, repairs, retrofits and modernization worldwide.

The Smart Infrastructure portfolio contains not only of access control systems but also fire alarm systems, intelligent building automation and optimization of heating, ventilation and air conditioning.

Atos is our global leader in digital transformation and cyber security solutions.

And at the last stop in our control room, we show our cloud solution MindSphere and Mendix, our low-code app development tool.

Advantages at a glance

We take our customers on a journey, a tour through a virtual Aerospace manufacturing hall, where we show and proof our know-how on each and every single process step and in addition to that, we can give them insights into our control room to accomplish our unique portfolio. 

Digital Industries, Smart Infrastructure as well as Atos have a place in our world. 

It is more than a fair but includes all the advantages of a fair.  

And we have the chance to also jump in another partner world, e.g., the Additive Manufacturing virtual showroom. 

The Aeroworld is flexible, individual, and always up to date. 

Every Aerospace colleague can have the Aeroworld on his laptop to demonstrate our portfolio everywhere and any time! 

Finally: in changing times customer meetings are challenging, meetings are more and more virtual, with a lot of PowerPoint slides…. Not too nice to look at!
